DOES YOUR MUFFLER HAVE TO LOOK RUSTY?

Post by joel gopan »

Not really, I have found that by painting the Muffler,Exhaust and Tail Pipe with HI Temp Aluminum or Silver paint before installation, the outside surface will not turn rusty and will retain the silver color, and smooth finish indefinitely. Mine has kept its appearance on my CCKW and MB for over 10 years. NOS Exhaust parts are not easy to come by, and this is an easy way to express a little pride in one's vehicle. It is a good idea to degrease the parts before painting. I have witnessed comments that the parts will smell when hot, but I have found this not to be the case on my vehicles.

exhaust

when I went to school we used a stove polish on the exhaust components,it's a little more time consuming than spray paint but it leave a very nice dark grey finish,we even did the exhaust manifold. It can be found at most bigger hardware stores or any place that sells wood stoves.

Joels solution is a good one. I have mine painted in Hi Temp aluminum paint and it does add to the looks of the truck. :D
