Wheel Rim Question

Post by robc »

I recently obtained a pair of 7.50 x 20 bar tread tyres on rims, the rims which appear to have the same centre part as a CCKW, whilst the rest is different, could any body out there indentify the rims? and how to dis-assemble?
They are both stamped 'K.H. Made in the U.S.A.' and also have 53 stamped on them.

You will also notice lugs welded to both sides of rim.

Thanks in advance.

The " K H " stands for Kesley-Hayes ( sp) a tire and rim manufacturer.
I don't believe they still exist.
The 53 is the year I assume
Never seen those lugs tho'
They are 5 lug as well .What are you planning to use them on ?
Without a lock ring I assume they dis-mount like a conventional wheel and tire.

Hope this helps

Hello

the lugs that are welded to the rim are for snow chains.

They look similar to the Dutch army DAF ya series.

hope this helps,

Rik

Thanks for your replies, I only intend to use tyres & tubes for my CCKW, the rims, which are in brilliant condition, will be sold if they can be indentified and if the tyres can be removed with out damage to them!!.

Its difficult to see in the picture, but there appears to be a clamping ring on the inside of the rim, may be this holds the two rims together??

Again thanks.

I can't really tell from the picture, but if there is a raised area on the inside about 2/5" wide and about 1/2 " high, then they come apart in the middle.

I have never taken one of the apart

It looks like these are the "split rim" type wheel. They were used a lot on civilian trucks. The whole rim comes in two in the middle - Like Dr Deuce, I have never dismounted this type ...but from what my grandfather (a long time trucker and Army mechanic) says they are the hardest of all wheels to dismount.

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... 0%26um%3D1

Here is a link to the wheels section on CCKW.org He is calling this the "come apart in the middle" rim. He refers to the M35 as the "split rim" when it is actually the RING that is split.

Any tire shop that does truck tires should be able to dismount these for you - but if you're a glutton for punishment like me, you go and talk with them and try it yourself!
