How much travel is there on the front shock absorber arm?

Can anyone tell me how much the arm on the front shock absorber moves up and down? I need to know how high up the joint of the link and the shock absorber arm will go. I need to mount a bracket above it and I don't want to snap the arm on a hard bump.

In the illustration on page 393 of TM 9-801 there is a u-shaped bracket attached to the frame above the leaf spring. Should there be a rubber block mounted to the hole in the bottom of the bracket? The illustration doesn't show one but it does seem to be a logical place for one.

Thanks

Neil,
Measure the distance between the axle and the rebound bumper.
That will get you in the "ball park "

Hope this helps
