Engine upgrades

Post by Degsy »

Dr Deuces info on upgrades is, as usual, very interesting and informative but probably has little direct relevance in the UK. However that is not to say that upgrades are not possible,I know of 2 CCKW's fitted with Perkins diesels the Bedford 330 diesel is a fairly common transplant on DUKW's.The Royal Marines still use them, and talking to one of the driver's he enthused about the 330 Bedford conversion but was not happy with a Cummins conversion due to bogging down as soon as it's wheels touched a beach, this being due to alack of torque at low rev's.It would be interesting to know if a Bedford 300 petrol engine has ever been fitted as I have reason to think that it might well be a fairly straightforward fit,Bedford were part of GM and I am led to believe that the blocks were very similar to the 270.
