Sooner or later most CCKW (this applys to all 4X4 and 6X6 vehicles) owners will attempt to remove a propeller shaft to repair a universal joint. If you are working on the front shaft, be sure the vehicle is NOT in front wheel drive. The reason for this is "wind up" on the shaft. when working on the rear shafts of the CCKW, it is best to jack up one wheel to the axle that shaft drives, this relieves the "wind up" that may exist on that propeller shaft. If this precaution is not done, you risk injury such as broken hand, fingers, teeth, or loss of an eye. I was witness to a firedepartment working on an M-35. They were removing a front propeller shaft, and the wrench went out the door and continued for two hundred feet. Do not learn the hard way. I learned this in Wheeled Vehicle Mechanics School.
