POINTS PROBLEM ?

Post by ERB72 »

Hello All,Before the oil pump problem covered in previous posts, I always thought that the spark across the points was weak, It just didnt have that crack.when forced to rebuild the broken distributor following the oil pump seizure,I decided to fit new points, new condenser and a new 6 volt coil. With the engine back running I could re check the spark at the points with all the" new bits" fitted NO REAL CHANGE after swapping back to the old bits one at a time and even having the live feed direct from the starter post to the coil I cannot get a real fat healthy spark at the points .It is fat & strong on the feed terminal into the disi, it is fat & strong if I short out across from the points, but across the point contacts  it is just not even 50% as good as every where else along the circuit ANY IDEAS :?:

You my not be getting a good ground on the points to the plate, or the plate to the housing or the housing to the engine.
