Hi all,
I have pulled apart my GMC gearbox after finding moisture inside, luckily I have caught it in time and no harm's been done.
I have decided to replace all of the bearings and the seal while it's apart.
My question is, should there be 34 needle roller bearings inside 3rd gear I belive it is on the main shaft? The manual says so but I swear I found 35 when I pulled it apart.
I have got 34 new ones as the manual states but they seem to gather up a little and turn in a slight slant rather than running perfectly parallel to the shaft. I don't think it looks right, so I would like to know if anyone who has had any experience with cckw gearboxes could tell me if this is OK?
I'd rather find out now than when it's back in the truck!
Kind Regards.

Yes,the manual says 34 rollers in the 3rd gear.I found too 35 rollers in mine,it is because the rollers are very very worn.Did you understand?

Re: Gearbox bearings
Hi, Thanks for the info.
I have got a NOS set of rollers out of the pack (34) and put them in and there is no excessive play.
I have found that the farmer who owned the truck before me or someone before that has had the box appart and hasn't exactly followed any manual (along with a number of other things on the truck).
It's all good now and I hope to get the brakes done in the near future!
Kind Regards, Jay.

Re: Gearbox bearings
In the 3rd gear rollers(needles) there are two washers that hold the 34 rollers. In mine, when we dissassembled the box was only one washer. The before owner me too had a wrong assembly.
