REFLECTORS & "OVE"

Post by joel gopan »

Best I can tell, is that the majority of the CCKWs came equipped with Guide A2 Oval reflectors with the Stimsonite 12 Lens, Some Wood Cargo bodied CCKWs had King Bee marble type reflectors. I believe I have observed some of the CCKWs with Shop Van bodies with other than Guide Reflectors, this would make sense, as the body was put on a CCKW that left the factory as a Cab and Chassis. I have spent big bucks over the years grabbing every Guide A2 reflector I can find. I believe I gave Jon Vetter around $12.00 ea. back 20 years ago for about a dozen of them . Do not confuse the Stimsonite 12 with Stimsonite 12A, 12A has smaller Facets. I have a good supply of "as new" Stimsonite 12 Lenses for trading. When your truck is complete, the fun is in putting on the "frosting", I mean the correct reflectors, and OVE (GI for On Vehicle Equipment). Shovels, Axes, Pick Mattocks, Bidons Fire Extinguishers, etc. are OVE. I never have seen a wartime photo of a CCKW with a Waterbucket on the Bidon. How many remember what a BIDON is?

I have often wondered if the truck was carrying a water can, why would they need a water bucket. What do you think? I understand a jeep and one can carrier, but a deuce and a half has a lot of room for extra cans for fuel and water. :D

reflectors

Post by Ledog »

I'm wondering about the correct reflectors to put on my CCKW. Mine has the steel bed with 2 holes for each reflectors, which are missing. It seems that there were two on the tailgate, two on the rear, each side of the bed. and two on front of the bed, each side, facing toward the front. I'm wondering if these were white. I've also seen some amber reflectors.

Maybe Joel can tell me what kind of reflectors and what color to put where?

Thanks

Oval Guide A-2 with Stimsonite 12 lenses were the most common, but the (I am lost for name) possibly, King Bee, round with marble like lenses are witnessed on many but not all wood bodies, and special purpose(Shop) bodys. The Shop bodies are understandable, as they are not a General Motors product. Guide is a division of General Motors. Lenses on front of CCKW are AMBER, rear sides ans tailgate are Red. Guide A-2 can be found on all M-135/M-211 Trucks, but will have Stimsonite 12A or Guidex Lenses with smaller facets. I have a good supply of Stimsonite 12 red lenses in as new condition.

Hi Guys,

I was out looking at my vehicles the other day and noticed that one of the reflectors on my cckw 352 b2 has a king bee marble style, unfortunately its broken in half :( . The tray is all steel, the truck is an early production model with the brake components on the outside of chassis rail.

Cheers.

The remnents of my wooden cargo bed had two King Bee reflectors on it, in really bad shape though. I have them in the remnents parts box at present.

Hi guys

My truck was converted with Dutch reflectors, these are smaller.
I had to redrill all original reflector holes, before I could bolt
the original ones on it.(:? , I mean look a likes :D)

I have some pics from reflectors that could be original, just
want too share these..

They look like KD or Yankee Bezels, with SR or SP lenses that are similar to Grotelite 100 lens, but with larger facets. Guide A-2 is the most common or correct Bezel.
