OPen cab CCKW doors

Were the add on doors for the CCKW open cab made of solid steel or canvas streached over a frame?

E-bay has a door listed but looks funky.

Canvas sewn and riveted over flat steel, basically.

open cab doors

I saw that door on ebay,kinda looks like a field expedient contraption. On the other hand I got my door from army cars usa today,it is very nice,I hope they can find the other side now.

I have a right side door that came with my truck. It looks like the original pictured in the ORD manuals.

I will get a picture up here after I get back from Aberdeen.

I got a set of doors for Joel recently. He said they were European manufacture, however I really don't kn ow, but they are really nice. They are flat steel frame with canvas stretched and sewn over them with the eisenglass windows.
I am going to look into reproduction doors this summer, if plausible and economical enough.

I just took a look at the door in question on Ebay and it is a strange looking door. The hinges appear to be in the right place and could be something utilized in the 50's or later, but the manuels do not mention an all metal door during WWII that I know of.

That door is for an enclosure Kit with metal roof, I have NOS Canvas Doors on my CCKW at somewhere around $400.00+. You want to grab 'em when they show, as they sell fast.

What I refer to as my "Korean War" CCKW cargo has the hard top and doors. I have only see one other in my years of collecting

We used to buy surplus CCKW F-3 Refueling trucks at Dow, Presque Isle and Eathan Allen AFB, in the 50s with the cold weather enclosures. In the mid 50s, Mt Reinier Army Depot converted these cabs into M-37 Cab Tops using various wooden shims and spacers to make them fit. Sam Werner said that they were refered to as "the ugly cab" when used on M-37. They had an oval rear window. There is one stored away a few miles from here, I may buy it some day to install on my CCKW for the cold Vererans day parades. The Hot water heater kits for CCKW are not much to brag about.

We don't need any kind of a heater in a CCKW in San Antonio, it's AC we need for 4th of July parades here. 100 + degree days in a slow moving parade makes for a very hot parade. Still wouldn't miss it though. :D

Steve, the Right foot Harrison Heater, is out of breath in high blower, but it is Issue and looks impressive.

From the nearly 60 years of being around active and surplus CCKWs from USA and Europe, I have only seen a handfull of Heaters, They are very ineffective,(note combat evidence of Open Cab trucks in winter with no doors, Hot water kit is nil for warming cab, the Stewart-Warner Fuel Burning models are Post War). The Hot water kits were out there, but were apparantly rarely installed. The Cab Heater Kit Instruction Manual was a GM Pub Dated 3-44, and was for the Harrison Hot Water Kit, which is 90% identical to the later CJ-2A, CJ-3A Jeep Heater Kit. These were probably in the system within a couple months. They are now rare and expensive. I have one left as a spare.

All the canvas items are available here in the UK from at least two makers.Doors cost 145 pounds sterling per pair and the quality is excellent.We replaced every item our soft cab 352 including complete new seats for less than 800 pounds.

Current exchange rate is 1.82 Dollars US to the pound sterling so this works out to 264 Dollars.
We bought all our canvas from Allied Forces and can recommend them,Martin&Jim are enthusiasts and owners of various US WW2 Vehicles.I don`t know of a website but the E-Mail address is JIM@CLARK87.fsnet.co.uk
The other manufacturer has a website at www.canvasco.com andE-Mail is canvasco@aol.com
I have not bought canvas from this company but would have complete confidence in doing so as they are long established and well known in the UK and Europe.
