Hood question

Post by Matt »

I was able to get some CCKW parts parts in a swop deal yestoday including two hoods, one has those little steel flashings along the lower inside edge and the other doesn't.

My question is,which is the earlier design?

My 43 has the flasing on the front of the inside of the hood. I have a replacement hood that has it also, that came off of a closed hood truck, but I don't know what year it was.

The baffle is found on the Earlier CCKW Hoods, probably those with the Diecast Carburetors w/early air cleaner, as time went on damaged hoods were exchanged, trucks that were used post war by the Euro Nations have had a lot of maintenance done to them, some were reprocessed prior to being issued, others sort of morphed into the little beasts that we proudly own.

You will also witness on the original installations using that hood that the Tie rod used with it was symmetrical, and not the one that was bulged to maych the larger diameter late Air Cleaner used with the C.I. Carburetors. It is kinda difficult trying to reason out if yours is original when your truck is a product of 60 years of mods.
