Getting parts from Belguim $$$$

I have some parts ready to ship from Belguim. About $200 worth. Shipping is $350!

ANyone have any better ideas that DHL and UPS who both seem to think air freight is the only way to go?

I have called a friend in Belgium who exports worldwide and he tells me that airmail is the only option.The items would have to be specially packed, then put in a container, the cost would nearly as much as airmail and delivery would be likely to be 3 to 4 months.

Are you buying them from a company or an individual??

I bought my spare tire carrier from Belgium, and fortunately the seller had a container of jeep parts headed to the US, to a dealer. He threw my stuff in the container "No Charge", and I just had to coordinate shipping with the dealer.

Might be something to look into...

Hard one that.

My company is an distribution company and we import mainly from North America. The price of shipping has gone up by huge amounts over the last 12 months.

It used to be 2/3 cheaper to use sea freight but that has now gone up. UPS are wonderful for those important packages and we have had gear in from the States within 24 hours but you do have to pay for it.

I would ask these companies what the cost for shipping it via sea freight, even though it you may have to weight.

Let me know what it is and the weight and perhaps I can help you with it at my end as we do have accounts with all the major companies. Depending how big it is I could bring them with when I am over in the States on business at the end of the summer.

Its a CCKW spare tire carrier..

The package is 50 x 50 x 70 cm and weights 18 kg.

Its a good price, but shipping almost triples the cost.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.... as spare tire carriers are pretty hard to get here in the USA.

In 2000 I got a lot of heavy parts for my truck from Sweden. I lucked out in the shipping as a guy in Indianapolis had bought two Dodge weapons carriers from this guy so they just packed my stuff in wooden crates and put the parts in the bed of the dodges. My frieght was free to the U.S. port. I then arranged for a nationwide trucking company to bring my stuff from Indianapolis to San Antonio by pre paying the shipping fee. The guy in Indianapolis was good enough to deliver my parts to the shipping company.

Importing can be a headache. I used to have an accounr with WOF (Hotchkiss) and would order duplicate shipments that would cost $20.00 via surface Parcel Post, and once in a while it would get screwed up, get crated, and go via Freight on board ship. It then would be $350.00, and be subject to Fork Lift fees at the Port, Customs inspection, a fee for a Cooper to open the box for inspection. This was in the 70s/80s. This stuff happens, and overseas shipping is expensive. It is a serious hobby and the stuff adds up. Kevin Kronlund and Jaap Rietveld are the way to go on GMC imports, they have the least surprises, and are fluent in shipping.

overseas shipping

I have sent three packages to Matt in Wales,each wieghing 40-60 lbs,I have been using the post office,it's slower but half as much as UPS,so far we have had really good luck with them.

I'll ask them about sending it postal mail... but the USPS is actually pretty good about getting mail overseas.... I have little/no experience with foreign postal services getting stuff to the USA.

I just realized that you're the same guy (at least I think you are) that was looking into repro'ing the spare tire carriers. Does this mean that you're putting that project on the back burner for now??

No, its just a more complete sample to work with. The carrier I got was bent and missing a part.

Plus the original owner wants the sample back.
