What TM did you see an "Open Cab Chevrolet" in? Are you sure what you saw was not a M-6 Bomb Service Chevrolet? The Chevrolet Closed Cab was different from the CCKW Closed Cab in details of the Firewall and the lower Right Rear Corner of the Cab, they were not the same production, and were wired differently.

open cab chevy

Post by bobc »

Hi Joel, In this thread back a bit the administrator posted a thread for vehicle markings it's out of TM9-850, they only call it a cargo truck 1 1/2 ton 4X4, but it sure looks like a chevy,I don't know what other 4X4 1 1/2 ton truck were built. Sorry for the super sized picture, must really tick off you guys with dialup. Bob.

Hi Bob,

Is your buddies truck in the picture a Chev or CCKW? if it's a CCKW is it a short or long wheel base?

Cheers!

I am well aware of the differences between the Chevy and CCKW cabs as I have a few of each.

The point I was making was that the tooling like doors etc was identical and that to modify the CCKW tooling to make it into Chevy tooling would be minimal compared to creating all new open cab tooling. Remember there was a war on.....

The manual in question here does indeed show an open cab 2 axle GM open cabed cargo truck. I have one of those manuals too.

Hi Matt, the truck in the picture is a short wheelbase with winch, you can see in picture the star was painted on in both directions, point forward and point backward,I guess they didn't have a stanard.

Thanks Bob! I have a CCKW hood with original paint and I can see two previous layers and on one the star is reversed.

Hood Markings

Post by Matt »

Hi Joel,
I doubt the paint is post war as it still has the star in a broken circle and Preston 44 marking.I will provide more detail and a picture as soon as I can.
