more Scrapyard pics from the Netherlands.

Post by Bill_Wolf »

Corné has sent additional pics from an undisclosed Salvage Yard in the Netherlands.

I have given them their own page.

http://www.cckw.org/salvage1.htm

There are some pics of other than CCKW vehicles there. Some WWII M1 Wreckers and alot of M-series trucks. Even though they don't fit the site I thought they were interesting.

Hope the Admin does not find out.... 8)

Fellows just remember, that not many years ago there were yards just like that in the United States, like Southern Equipment in Georgia , and the surplus outlets in Hooks, Texas just off of the Red River Arsenel main gate and so on. San Antonio was full of them, and now no more. The vehicles that were not saved were scrapped and reduced to parts, then those parts sold as metal scrap for pennies a 100 pounds.
We don't save our history, we scrap it for money.
That is the reason each and every one of your guys is important. I will say this over and over. You are the protectors and teachers of history and with every old truck you save and restore, then you have saved another piece of history.

Want to get a feeling what it was kind of like in the late 40's, go the Memphis Equipment site, click on photo gallary at the top of the page, then scroll down to the M35 troop carriers awaiting shipment and mentally flash back to 1947 and pretend that those are CCKW's. One of these days we will be saying the same thing about the M35's as we are the CCKW's and when we could buy a real good one for $3000.00 complete with all canvas.
Many years ago I used to buy Winchester 73 rifles and carbines for $25.00 a piece in a pawn shop in Shreveport, Louisiana . I was in high school and would then re-sell them in the Shotgun News for $40.00 a piece and thought I was making a killing. I bought my first car with the profits. A 1945 MB . Just think, that jeep was only 10 years old when I bought it.
Things change and one needs to sieze the moment.

I have 8 CCKWs and 7 Chevys. If I live long enough, I will wind up with 6 CCKWs and 5 Chevys 9probably).

People tell me that I will never finish them all. That may be true, but I have saved them from the scrap heap and I never finish them. maybe someone else will come along and finish some of them...!

Steve AKA Dr Deuce

PS: It took 20 years to get from having one CCKW on the road to having 2 on the road. I still have at least 4 more to do! Let me do the math here...
Dr Deuce Over 50,000 driven miles in a CCKW
1942 CCKW closed cab shopvan
1943 CCKW closed cab cargo w/M32 MG mount
1944 CCKW open cab LeRoi Kompressor
1944 CCKW open cab F1 Aircraft fueler tanker
1945 CCKW open cab cargo w/artic cab
1942 Chev cargo
1942 Chev K51 Panel
1944 Chev M6 Bomb Truck
1942 GPW Jeep
