Did you ever notice how small the inside of the Cab is? As with the MB/GPW, some collectors have problems adapting to their cabs do to age, obesety, or large frame. The Closed Cab is easier to enter and exit, the Open Cab has more room,but was designed so that anyone of average height is actually too short to see over the hood effectively. Old Vets have difficulty getting in and out of Open Cab. As the closed cab models age, some drivers crack their knuckles on the switches on the dash due to worn out shifting covers, and end up with "Door to Door" shifting. Stay in shape and maintain your truck to spec, this is how the Army did it when we were so young and trim. Beer Bellies were not WWII Issue. It is also amazing what a NOS Gear Shift Cover will do, it may be worth it. Mine actually had a Studebaker Number on the Tag. US6 used same part. No, it will not stop the gear grinding, that takes practice.

You can really crack your knuckles with a civy or early military Chevy that has the ash tray out and a loose shifter! Been there with my 46 civy truck when I use to smoke....

Relief is only as far away as your friendly Parts Dealer. I have Chevy and GMC shifting components. On Chevrolet the lugs on the cover wear, good tight covers are scarce.

So you have Chev lugs that will make a Chev tight? What holds them in?

You are right, a tight Chev is a very rare item!

No, I have Good Clean Covers, that are WWII Take offs, 1 or two left. The NOS covers are extinct. I stick this stuff in Hemmings when I need some serious Bucks. I have a good stock of NOS Four Speed Shift Levers with the Reverse flipper and rubber boots.
