M32 gun mount

Post by dr deuce »

There is a model on Ebay of a closed cab CCKW with an M32 gunmount on it. The model (I realise it is only a model) has braces back to the troop seat bracket that I do not have on mine. I do not see any reason for it as the troop seat brackets do not have much strenght for something as heavy as a gunmount.

From what I can see, the rest of the mount looks correct

Below is the item

your guess is as good as mine on this issue. Probably the figment of the builders imagination. :D

Gun Mount

Post by Karoshi »

Steve this is modelled (loosely) on the M37 gun mount, however the rear bracing struts should anchor on the body sides and not to the top of the wood slats. A bit of modelling licence I think.

The M32 and M37 mounts look very similar but an easy way to tell is the 3 tin ammo store on the cargo side of the ring on the M37. Also the M37 does not have the triangular brace at the rear of the uprights, hence the struts.

M37's came in 4 flavours:

M37 for 352 closed cab metal body.
M37A1 for 353 closed cab wood body.
M37A2 for 353 closed cab wood body.
M37A3 for the 353 tankers.

See GMC "un camion de legende" - Boniface. It’s in French,.. But the pictures translate. See colour plate page 19. (Which incidentally is incorrectly described?)

If you guys get the latest Supply line look in Kevin's add. (Army cars of Holland) You will see a picture of a CCKW with an M32 mount with that type of supports. Maybe that was something they added in Europe?????

Bobc, try a search on google for : ISBN 27268-93236. Its available thro Amazon and Book Butler, so shouldn't be a problem.

Hard cover, 143 pages, glossy paper, many colour plates, many many mono's. It's a photo album with French text captions. A great visual reference work.

That model is from the Italeri range kit#6721 and that is how it comes from the box unfortunately. While we're on the subject of gun mounts etc does anyone know if anyone ever mounted a captured german quad 20mm flakvierling in the back of a CCKW?
