On the Long Wheel Base Spare Wheel Carrier, the two nuts used to secure thr Spare Tire to the Carrier (GM-2140669) are similar to the NUT, locking, right wheel inner,(GM-2201406) except that there is no outer thread,. They are smooth. These are very difficult to find, I will buy all I can find, and have two on my shelf as souveniers. These are not used on SWB CCKW 352, just conventional 3/4"-16 NF Nuts (GM-12465) with flat and split lockwashers, and bolts 1 1/2" long are used.

Spare nuts
Hi Joel, Thats very interesting, who would have thought that they would waste so much time and effort. Do they look like inner lug nuts that haven't been threaded or are they thinner, could you lathe off the thread of a stanard one?

I will dig them out and compare them with an original WWII GMC Inner Nut, but from memory, they are basically an unfinished inner lug nut. I will get out my 1-2" Micrometer and compare the major thread diameter with the OD of the blank one. I do not consider it as wasteful, but as "a bit of pure 1930s technology". I will bet that most would not have realized they existed if an old fart like me had not mentioned it. The inner lug nuts will work just fine.
Curiosity got to me and I just went to my CCKW shelf and brought up the two Spare Tire Nuts and an original GM Inner wheel nut and the Diameter if the threaded one is 1.119" and the OD of the Spare Tire Nut is 1.119" on one and 1.121" on the other I estimate that if you turn off the threads, you will lose about 0.040" of the diameter. I can't post a pic, but I can pass it on to someone who can. (Not tonite) Guess what, I discovered the spare special bolt and nut that passes thru the Chassis and spare tire bracket to secure and padlock it in place, it has a hole thru it near its' end for the Padlock. I have a theory that I will check out to see what will duplicate it. This is the fun stuff where I learn and pass on bits of trivia that I never cared to realize over the years. Remember, the Spare Tire Nuts do not have "L" or "R" on the square end.

It's easy, you know there are two of them, so you scan down the quantity column, looking for "2", and use your imagination for the Noun that goes with it. I have lived out of SNLs since early 50s.
