Which way does the Cap face? Sometimes the units stencled the Company ID on the long end. Ex; CO A, HQ CO, CO D, etc in 2" 3", or 4" letters.

The latest 5 Gallon GI Cans of the 90s were epoxy lined.
I believe the Steel GI Can is now obsolete and a plastic version is used. Am I correct?

I imagine that in the heat of every day use no one really looked at which way the cap faced during WWII. I always face the cap towards the front, just for dress purposes. It is liking dressing propellers on WWII airplanes, it is more of a display thing than a practical thing. Looks nice for presentation.

I like to put the Cap toward the rear on the open cab, it allows any markings on the long side of the can to be legible, and it allows some extra to access the bottom Latch Handle that secures the bottom of the Open Cab door.

That makes sense, however I don't drive my truck that much in the winter so normally when the cans are on the truck it is summer time and the doors are in storage. Just a personal preference thing, I suppose.

Also is easier on tired old farts with big feet. I haul a few of them in parades, and it is easier for them with the cap to the rear. It makes no big difference how the can is facing. Many CCKWs were produced without gas can brackets, including Open Cabs.

I just received another German can dated 1942 today. It has approxz. 80 % of the original paint on it. I am about to get enough cans now.
