I am in the act of buying a trailer too.....
I am assuming it is a Gross Weight of 14K as I have the option to buy dual axle trailers with either 7K or 10 K axles making it 14,000 or 20000# gross.
You need to find the weight of the trailer. If it is like the ones I have been looking at it may haul a cargo CCKW but nothing above that as the trailers (gooseneck) that I have been looking at weigh 5,500#'s putting a 14K trailer below the gross of the net weight of the CCKW.
Now that I have thoroughly confused you. Check the website TM9-2800 link....it lists net vehicle weights.. add that to the trailer weight to see if it is under the threshold.
Remember that while it should carry it without failure it may put you over GVW which would allow a LEO to pinch you.
What I am going to do is go to the 20K goose neck and get a CDL so I am always legal (Except for the sherman
