WW2 wheels

Post by bobc »

Joel, you say most of the WW2 20 inch rims are the same, but do they all use the same type of lock ring? And will a slpit ring lock work on the military rim that used the solid ring? Looking through my rim collection I'm finding alot of strange lock rings, but the rims appear to be CCKW,at least the date would indicate they were. I'm not worried about all matching dates,I'm just trying to get a good safe and proper rim collection.

Checking all the TM10 Parts manuals for CCKW/Chev 4X4 and all ORD 8 and 9 Parts Manuals, you will find only one GM part number for the Lock Ring. You will discover Motor Wheel, Budd, Kelsey Hayes, etc manufactured wheels. I would not attempt to use a Split Lock ring on a dated Military Wheel. Check the numbers and ID of the Dated Wheels, and I will try to see if they match the Parts Manuals. If the Solid lock rings ate not corroded on the convex side, you will discover a GM number beginning with 2, regardless of brand. If you question if the wheel is military, send me a pic of the bare wheel and I will try to help.. You will discover both welded and riveted centers where they join the wheel.
