WHEEL SAFETY

Post by joel gopan »

DO NOT FOR ANY REASON ATTEMPT TO REPAIR A WHEEL BY WELDING, ATTEMPTING TO WELD A WHEEL WHILE INFLATED WILL BE CERTAIN DEATH.

WELDING CHANGES THE METALLURGY AND A WHEEL IS NOT SAFE WHEN THIS OCCURS.

If you are lucky, you will see the area between rivets lift on the interface of the wheel center and the rim.

I have also seen them go the other way too; Instead of lifting the finger on the center part of the wheel, it rots thru the rim and the wheel may get wider than normal at one place and hopefully not pop the ring off.

The only close call I have ever had (knock on wood) was a 7.50 x 18 on Bomb Trailer #1 that did that while I was adding some air to the tire as it looked and was a littlle low...
