engine temp?

Post by bobc »

The other day I put my cckwx to work,a friend of mine has a 5 ton 6X6 M-series thats been sitting at my place for 8 years, tires are flat but I had to move it a few feet to put up a fence, put the GMC in 6 low and gave a pull, broke the chain right off,so I hooked up the winch and set the park brake,it slid the GMC,so I used the winch cable and chain and pulled till it started rocking and finally it rolled, all during this episode I left the GMC running, the original temp gauge is gone but I have a aftermarket SW one hooked up,the temp never got to 160. Do these trucks have a 160 thermostat,or do they just take a long time to warm up,or is my gauge messed up? I don't want to take the chance of over heating the engine.

They had a 160 degree thermostat originally.

Sometimes in the winter, they have a hard time getting to that temperature if not working and it is really cold out.

Sometimes in the summer, they will go well over 160 degrees when it its hot and it is working hard. Before you shut it off, let it idle for a few minutes to bring the temp back down. Alos check the anti regularly as they tend to blow off a little anti a olt of times when shut down hot...
