New to the Market

I am currently saving up my spare change for some big ticket items. I am a big fan of WWII History and a Re-enactor. I am going to be entering the market here soon for a WWII Jeep (With trailor Ihope) and a CCKW (I would really like an open Cab). I would also intertain a DUKW. My question is how much do these CCKW's go for on average and where can I find one? I am not that good at repair so it would have to be a job almost done.

Thanks for the help and be kind to the newbies!

Ah....bitten by the OD bug....

Your neighbors are going to hate you...

My thoughts and only my thoughts.

A decent Jeep will run you $10K plus and will fit in your garage out of the elements. Check ebay for condition and pricing. Watch for months before purchasing.

A 90% plus CCKW on the East Coast will run you $8,000 plus. There is some stuff available in the NJ/PA area. See the attached websites. Major expenses are Tires 10 at $160 each (that includes freight). Brakes at $900. For above $10 grand you should be able to find a truck that needs next to nothing.

Bob Rubino had some for sale too...I can't find his web-site...somebody chime in with the URL.

(There are others...guys put up URL's of them please)

DUKW's....The Holy grail of the WWII HMV softskin collecting world. Expect to pay 3 to 5 times the CCKW. There is a nice turn key DUKW for sale in Maine for $50K. It will be mine when the "Powerball" comes rolling down the driveway.

My suggestion is to do months of research on what you want. There are many people here on the list that would be glad to offer their opinion. View the CCKW and take lots of pictures and then post them. We would all be glad to offer our constructive criticism on your potential purchase.

Good luck and don't hesitate to ask.

Me and questions are easy, I will ask, ask ask and ask again. As for the price that is a bunch less that I expected. So a Mint would run in the field of 10-15K? Either way, I have some time to look and investigate as I need to collect the cash. The wife has this thing about paying bills and making more.

Thanks for the tips and help. Any and all addresses are welcome.

Your wife is like mine in that catagory. Even if you are mechanically inclined and can pick up a CCKW for 2000.00 you will put in another 6 - 8 grand in parts without the labor invlved to get it up to real nice.
It is worth it though. or at least I think so. :D

As was mentioned, you can get alot more truck for the money then a jeep,BUT,it also needs a much bigger home,if you do drop 15,000 on a show piece CCKW you don't want to leave it outside, but you could put your whole reanacting group in it for parades and events,so wiegh that into your considerations, plus you can tell your wife that you can always use the truck to help friends move or move your stuff when she throws you out when she sees what you drug home. Good homework is essential, what ever OD vehicle you decide on,read alot of different websites, such as Vehicles of Victory and the G-503. And don't worry about asking questions here or on the other sites there is never a shortage of opinions. Bobc
