Sad question inbound, but.......

What is the thickness of your GMC seats, the bit with the springs in?
The reason that I ask is because if I don't use some extra 'soft furnishings' then I cannot see my headlamps, let alone anything else!
I am 6' in height and I find it hard to believe how the men/boys of 60+ years ago would of been able to have good vision as they were a lot smaller than me!

I am curious too. my seats i assume are old french made seats that fit nice but the bottoms have plywood instead of springs...were springs the only thing used in seats on all cckws? if so, I would like to repace with them..how?

Hi Jack. My seats are new from Beechwood, and are plywood based. Not sure what the packing is, foam I expect, but they are about 4 -- 4.1/2 inches thick.... total.
It gives a good position without any additional packing.
Try one of mine for size when we meet.

Jack,
I think it depends on which GMC you are talking about.
It seems to me that the closed cabs seats are quite a bit thicker and springier than the Open Cabs. For instance, I bounce around like anything in the Closed Cabs, and don't find it too bad in the open ones.
I will ask Mick and Jem to check their seats as they are different. Not sure whether they are supposed to be, but the Closed Cab view/window seems smaller than the open cab one aswell.

It is a strange but my instincts are telliing me that these seats aren't GMC as the driving position is all wrong.

Colin, we have met yet this year so I am still looking for the answers on this one.
I don't want to go to the Gathering of Eagles next week looking a complete prat with me cab full up with soft furnishings
When I look through books I see that you can see must open cabs with the cusions sitting a lot higher than the door..........
Your help is needed to stop my looking like a prat next week ( no comments
)

The Beechwood wooden-based seat squabs measure 4.3/4" thick, overall.
The front edge of seat squab to cab floor measures 14.1/2"
No you cant borrow them!
