Hey fellas, While at a construction site south of Indy I looked over the fence to a back lot behind some buildings, and lo and behold there set a CCKW closed cab with a drilling rig on the back. Did the Gov-mint have these or is it a post war alteration?

From what I have read, the Corps of Engineers had custom built drilling rigs but I think you will find that most of the rigs you come across are civilian post war built units on the trucks. Has anyone ever come across an original engineers rig?

Of cpurse now it would be hard to tell if it were original Corps of Engineers or civilian modification as too many years have passed, but the Corps modified a lot of CCKW's and 1 1/2 ton Chevey's to fit their needs for a post war construction boom for the corps. That included a lot of Air Force base work as more and more hard surface runways had to be built and longer ones to meet the needs of jet aircraft.
