So really, how many GMC's were actually sent to the ETO?

I really don't know but I do know that over 5000 were used by the Red Ball Express, so maybe that will be a start.

You could get a rough idea looking at the TO&E (?) to see how many were issued to different groups then looking to see how many of those groups were in Europe during that period.

One of the problems I believe is that the recommended numbers changed during the war and different groups came into existence, were modified and went out of existence.

It would not be easy, but could be done.

A similiar interesting question would be how many are at the bottom of the Atlantic! There are some 1/2 tracks and God knows what else on the bottom off of the coast of Maine (USA).

Thanks guys, that is a start. I am just trying to get a rough idea of how many GMC's that we see in the UK were actually used during the war...........
