Hi Bob
The H1 in your ser # means it a cargo dump (tipper) and ser # 401215 was mfg November 1944 The starting ser # for the month of November is
394577 and ending with 418542. Your truck was the 6638 th truck built for the month
There is no way to pin down the exact day if it is not stamped on the data plate. hope this helps

It is amazing how many military vehicles are missing the data plates, regardless of type or manufacture. I am lucky as old Betty Boop still has her original data plate. At least with the serial number one can pin down the month and year of manufacture, but any other information becomes exceedingly difficult to impossible to trace after that. Good luck.

ORDNANCE NUMBERS rpt "ORDNANCE"NUMBERS
HELLO,ITS ALSO AMAZING ME AS HOW I AM TO USE THE INFORMATION YOU HAVE KINDLY SUPPLIED ON THE QUESTION ASKED
THE ONLY THING PERHAPS IS THAT MOST OF THE CCKWs "OVER HERE" HAVE PROBABLY SEEN SOME LIFE
EITHER IN WW2 E.T.O.OR IN VARIOUS & POSSIBLY NUMBEROUS EUROPEAN ARMEEs AFTER END OF HOSTILITIES.AND HAVE LOST LITTLE BITS & PIECES LIKE DATA PLATES IN THE PROCESS
UNLIKE THE ONES OVER YOUR SIDE OF THE POND THAT COULD HAVE HAD A VERY DIFFERENT LIFE
I HAVE A DATA PLATE AND SO DO YOU IT SEEMS BUT THE QUESTION WAS ABOUT TRACING HISTORY USING THE CHASSIS AND ORDNANCE NUMBERS THAT I HAVE AND YOU DONT NEED A DATA PLATE TO HAVE THAT INFORMATION
PERHAPS NOT SO AMAZING AFTER ALL. REGARDS ERB72

I am sorry in that I did not mean to imply that you did not have the data plate. Just a supposition on my part as to your question as to date of manufacture. Most data plates give the date of delivery, and while not in alll cases , that normally coincides closely with the date of manufacture. What is the date of delivery on your tipper, as I am researching dump trucks and dates of manufacture and delivery? Sometimes there seems to be some drastic lead time involved between the date of manufacture of a tipper rolling stock and the actual delivery date to the Army.
I surmise that it involved either with the beds manufacture or the lifting mechanism availibility.
