The GMC CCKW

Does anyone with an M36 Ring Mount on their Open Cab CCKW have one with a data or serial number tag? Or does anyone know what serial number range the gun mounts should have? And where does the tag go?

I have an M36 tag dated 1944 from the Trackson Company with a blank serial number field and would like to put it on my ring mount.

The Trackson Company was located in Milwaukee WI - that's about 75 miles from me. They made attachments for Caterpillar equipment and were later purchased and became a part of Cat until the plant closed in the early 1980's.

I have a French return, August 1944, CCKW B2, with the M36 ring mount. It is a Trackson Company Data Tag dated 1943 with this serial number: 16677. Also, on the data tag in the lower right hand corner it is stamped "ACR."

My data tag which appears to never have been removed is situation on the front support arm above the windshield located between the upright attachment point and the predrilled holes for the ammo can holder. It is centered.

Could you measure the lenght of all 3 legs please ?
Do you have the welded stops on the rear 2 legs ?

That's great information about the tag. Exactly what I was looking for.

My blank tag also has the "ACR" inside a rectangle in the lower right corner.

John, the mount I have has the welded arms, not the cast ones. I can measure the legs this weekend and will try and post some photo's next week. The rear legs have the welded lugs on them. Assume you want measurments of them also?

I had this mount on my M35 until the CCKW was done. so I've had it on and off several times. Advice to anyone about to mount one. GET HELP.
These things can be a real finger smasher / arm breaker if you're working alone. I still have all ten digits and the mount looks good on the CCKW.

I've got a set of the welded legs also and they have the lugs on them too.
I bought a set of the cast brkts from Kevin and made my own legs from 2 1/4" OD tubing .
The longest welded leg I have is 66" therefore I made all the new legs that lenght, pending getting measurements from an original cast set.
My reasoning is that it is always easier to " cut some off" than to " cut some on "
My set does not have a data plate , but I will look for evidence of it's location however.

The brackets I have are welded steel, not cast iron. I have welded stops on the rear 2 legs. As to the location of the data tag, I looked at it again last night and it is within 2" centered of the ammo can bracket holder. There are 4 tiny screws holding it in place.

Hi,

I went home and looked again at my M36 gun mount: there are 2 small screws holding it in place, not four; the rear (2) legs (everything is originial) are 54 5/8" long and each have 7 tabs welded to them for height adjustment of the mount itself; the front leg is 64 1/2" long with no tabs welded, however, there are a series of predrilled holes to use for putting a bolt thru for height adjustment; and, the data tag end closes to the ammo can bracket is 1 1/2" from the bracket and located about 2/3 up from the bottom of the arm. All the arms are welded steel and not cast.

Yes my welded legs match your description INCLUDING the data tag mounting holes next to the ammo storage tray.
There is no evidence of any holes /rivets in the cast brkts.
I have always thought these mounts were post war models as the one I own is still painted desert sand
Does anyone have an original WW2 with the cast mount so I could verify the leg / tubing detail ?

Hi

I want to clarify: the predrilled holes are in the front leg at it's base where is fits into the collar by the passenger's front door area. The legs themselves are welded to the steel brackets and are not adjustable.

Thanks to all who offered information. I found the holes for the data plate on my mount.

For those of you thinking about adding a mount, I have posted 24 detail images of the M36 mount on my dump truck. Yes it will fit the tipper and yes the engineers did do that. By the way, it was 17 degrees F here when I wanted to drive it out take the pic's. The truck cranked up and started on the original 6 volt system just fine.

Take a look at the details. Hope that will help. This is my first attemp at posting a batch so someone let me know if you can access them OK.

Also took some measurements on the M36 legs and sketched the dimension details. (My old drafting teacher will be spinning in his grave!)
