USMC usage of CCKWs in the Korean War

I posed the question in the G503 forum bacause of the "USMC" on the hood of one of the new additions to the "fleet" and this is what "Frank USMC Sergeant Major of the Gee" wrote back in reply, and yes I got permission to requote it here....

"Yes, they got them right after WWII and units were "forced fed" them in the Korean war.

After the war was over, on Camp Lejuene, North Carolina, there were so many army vehicles turned in for disposel that the base had to closed down every other street on the base to use as parking areas for the trucks that the army was turning over. The Marines would walk down rows of vehicles picking out the best, low milage vehicles to keep, and sending the rest to DRMO.

During the Korean war (in Korea), the Marines would drive the International 6x6 (M-5H-6) till it fell apart. They knew if they turned it in for repairs, they would not get it back and would be "forced fed" a CCKW. They did not want the CCKW saying it was half the truck as the International. "
