k-what :?:

by brian
signal corps trucks that were put togeather for a spacific use
were given a K- number
like the famous k-51 chevy panal truck for the scr-299 radio.
or the famous k-52 ben hur generator trailer.
or the famous k-53 2 1/2 ton van.

the earlest no I have found is the k-18/ k-19 truck and trailer combo
for the scr- 197 radio.

and the latest is the k-83 for the semi trailer dolly

Just a correction:

The K51 Chevy housed the SCR-299

The HO-17 slide in radio shelter in back of the CCKW housed the SCR-399

this would probably be a good thing to go on a wiki,
if any one knows how to do that .

I think one reason the k-list has so many holes, is that all the radar stuff
was top secret at the time, in looking at the radar web sites, those guys
are focused on the electronics, and dont really care about the vehicles.
guess I'm going to have to start shooting off e-mails to the radar guys.

Nice work Chris T and Brian.

Which one of you 2 wants to consolidate the list on an MS Exel spreadsheet and send it on to me?

We will make it 3 columns with the K- number, description, and a thumbnail.

I will then post it to the main site so it can get "googled" and be available to everyone world wide.

Another valuable part of history recovered.
