Hey guys don't know if this is the appropriate place to post this or not.
Newbie to the forum just got my first Jimmy and thought I would show her off. Here is a link to some photos of "Sweet Pea" some of you guys may have already seen her on the Dodge forum but for those that haven't here is a little back ground.
http://www.northwestmilitaryvehicles.com/CCKW.html

I just got my first GMC and boy is she a beauty. Farmer in north eastern Wa. had 4 Studebakers, 1 jimmy and a 1/2 ton Dodge closed cab and we got them all ! I am keeping the GMC for myself. Got them as the barn was coming down on top of them. The Studes still have the packets with build sheets and manuals although a little tattered, but they are there. Still hoping to find the papers for the GMC. The farmer bought these surplus in 46 the Studes were in factory 2 packs when he bought them from the gov. This jimmy looks to be 95% complete!

Looks like you got a winner! And it still had the bed data tags... Wish mine did.....
You need to get the serial number off the ID tag or frame rail and turn it in to the CCKW register. And post it on the site and one of the members will be able to the time frame of when your truck was built.
But for a late war production truck the plastic steering wheel is correct.
And nice to know that there are still great treasures to be found out in peoples barns! :D This is the reason why I keep searching. :)
But you certainly found the HMV motherload!!!

Doc Britton.

Post any questions you like here about your stuff. We would all be interested in following your progress.

We have many interested IH truck fans who also visit this forum as they don't have a home. Please post pictures of those, if you have them, in the other WWII trucks catagory.

Hi,
It would be great for the rest of us if you would bring your new CCKW to the Portland Convention in August. Such orginial trucks are a very rare find.

Hi Brian,

Your not wasting any time!! :D That's great! When you get those big NDT's on then it really gets exciting. One of the first things I did was remove all the wheels, get them sandblasted, primed and painted and put the new tires on. Then thru the months of the rest of the restoration I could see how good the wheels/tires looked and not get discouraged! Keep up the good work and keep us posted on the progress! 8)

Hammerhead, this is exactly what I want to do this year. I am just at the beginning of my restauration project. Some of the tires on my CCKW still seem to be original ones mounted 63 years ago. The rims need a sandblast as well. I hope I can find a set of tires of the military mud & snow pattern. I don't like these norwegian style tires.

Regards.

Eric at Universal Tire has both the STA sidewall and the Firestone sidewall ( In my opinion the Firestone is better )
Hope this helps

I agree with John.

The Firestones have less US DOT garbage on the side making them "look" like they are from an earlier period.

I believe on the HMVF site they were talking about doing a group buy/discount for European based customers. Don't know what became of it.

Maybe Karoshi, or the new DUKW owner...Nick, or Kees can help on a Euro source.

I'm fortunate in not needing tyres so wasnt involved in the HMVF tyre deal.

Jack was heading this up so it may be worth contacting him directly.

Admin@HMVF.co.uk or jack@hmvf.co.uk.

I think RCUBED a new member to CCKW was involved so he my have better info?

Nice project nwmv, congratulations, shes gonna be a beauty.

Amazing! Looks like a mix of new and used tires in the second pic. Let see at ten tires to a stack that represents a whole bunch of trucks

Wow I got my tires in today  That sure is a lot of rubber! Any of you guys actually do your own tire installations?

I don't. I only umount/mount the complete wheels. I don't have the adequate tools and so it is too dangerous for me to fix the rubber on the rims. Especially when inflating them. I let a professional do that for me in a tire workshop.

Chris
