K-53

Post by Chris T. »

Great day! I picked up my water truck and my K-53. Does anyone
have a K-53. Mine was rebuilt by FEAMCOM 13th Maint. Group in
Oct. of 1951. I was thinking of setting up a SCR-299 in it,
or making a cook shack for our MV meets.

Have a great 4th of July.

Wow, that will be nice. Are you taking it to Tower Park in October? I just remembered. We know where the other K53 is out at Gunter's ranch also. That is a good parts box if you need it. Just a thought.

Yea, I'm going to swing by sometime this week. I don't know if it will make it to Tower. I have to paint a DUKW  and finish an engine rebuild  for one of the other CCKW's.

I am presently restoring and building a K51 Chevrolet Panel truck that also has the SCR-299 in it. I now have almos all the radio parts including the BC-610 transmiter and two each of the two different radios that go inside. I also have the Ben Hur trailer and PE-95 (10kw) genset that makes the trailer a K52.

If you talk to some ham radio operators you may be surprised at the help that they can give you on it. I am getting all the radio equipment rebuilt and wired by one ham and ALL the body work done on the truck by another ham operator! All I have to do is mechanical and electrical related to the truck and paint it!

Food for thought....

PS: If anyone knows of a decent HO-17 radio shelter in the New England (USA) area for sale, let me know.

Those trucks are great looking. I only wish my truck had been like one of those. I really liked the photo of your trucks. You have some real history there. Have fun

Thanks for the kind words. Now the fun begins! :D BTW, the K-53 was half full of NOS parts. I still have to tow the K-60 home, but it's only 50 miles away. The K-53 runs great, I just cleaned out oil pan and oiled the top end and VROOM!

K-53 ORD 8 or 9 G-711

Post by Chris T. »

OK, I've pulled myself out of the shop to ask if anyone has the manual for the K-53 body?

The title is "G-711 Bodies, Signal Corps, Van, Truck, 2 1/2 ton, 6x6, K-53 & K-60"

I'll check with Portrayal this week, but I thought I'd try here first.

Thanks
