I was wondering if anyone is able to give me any info on the number stamped into the engine block on my truck.

I believe it reads "ETO 270 399". I can't find any numbers after the 399

That is different!

All GMC engines from that era that I have seen and into the 50's too started with 3 digits that were the CID of the engine followed by the rest of the number.

For Chevys, you have to be observent of the external features AND have the decoder ring for the numbers to figure out which engine you have....

I would bet it was a replacement engine, ETO = "european theater of operation",very interesting,I'll have to look at my engines and see if any have a wierd number.

Could be the Ord Depot , someone will know. There will be a rebuild tag on the Drivers side at the base of the block giving rebuild specs, and that may indicate the Depot.
