Again Joel, your massive knowledge about the GMC CCKW overwhelms us. I , for one, don't have a clue about what you are talking about. But if is as attractive as a water bucket I want one.

I'll bite....what is a Hipkins Device/Hipkins Kit.

Google only shows 1 hit on it...That being there is one at the Patton Museum but it did not elaborate further.

Joel...Please enlighten us....

Joel are you suggesting that the Hipkin Device is just the track extension piece i.e The Grouser, or are you saying the Hipkin Device is the whole track ensemble? a la pictures you refer.

The 'Grouser' of course will not convert wheel drive to track on its own.

The Hipkins was developed to enhance cross country performance of an existing tracked vehicle.

Noted. But tell me why Hipkin got involved when the Patton Papers state that the device was applied to tank tracks, for improved performance.

The concept of the track was well understood tried and tested before Hipkin ever became involved, what exactly then did he contribute?
