SECURING YOUR TAILGATE

Have you all learned the proper way to hook your chains to the tailgate? There are two choices, one works, the other will allow your tailgate to bounce open. Not good if you have a loose Jeep in back or something on wheels.

Yeah, got that Joel, learnt that pretty early on in life the hard way when I was on the farm.
But how do you have you hooks when you have your tailgate half way down?

Perhaps I can get pics later, if anyone cares to demonstrate, step up. The TMs on the Chevrolet or CCKW did not have instructiond to my knowledge.

You only have to drive a CCKW or chevy a short distance to realise that you need to hook the loop on the chain then take the hook and come up from the bottom and swing it around so that it is hanging down.
Every time someone tries to help you thay come down from the top and it just jumps out on the 1st big bump.
Probably worse then unhooking is unhooking one side with a load on against the tailgate. This might twist the tail gate.

My truck has obviously experienced all of the above.

I hook my tail gate chains the correct way,and I figured it out all by myself and I didn't have to ask Joel

How about them war movies when they go to jump out of the truck and let the tail gate fall bang bang bouncing of the bumpers. my truck just like everyone else has two dents in the tail gate right were it hits the bumpers, and for that reason I am the one who opens the tail gate, after 60++ years I figure the old girl should get some respect . Have you seen the movie red ball express 1952 with Jeff Chandler when he stops the convoy and one of the trucks non winch rearends another truck ( can you say BANG!! ) Its a wonder there are any straight bumpers out there. Joel tell the gang what happened to your truck when it was sailing back accross the pond

maybe someone else has a story to tell.

Some of them pairs of dents are from backing up with the tailgate down til there is a clunk.
