CCKW 353 H1 Tippers

Post by Brent Delaney »

Hi Board,

Here is a question I have asked before on the "other" forums with little sucess, I own a mid series open cab tipper, now my truck has wooden combing rails along the entire lower length of the tray. I have seen other tipper trays that are all steel (no wood). Is there any documented history
showing when this occured?
Has any one else come across trays with wooden inserts?
This has led me to believe that there are early and late production trays for the dumpers, I also know that there are two styles of cab protector mounting hardware, early and late?

Anybody care to comment on this subject, would like to get to the bottom of this teaser.

Cheers,

Brent Delaney.

H1 Tippers

Post by arthur.m »

Hi Brent,

at least my H1 has all steel cargo bed, there is a little storage box right above tank, it has a wooden door, similarly the bottom of the big tool (?) box is made of short lenghts of wood. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a maker's plate of the cargo bed. The upper most part of the cab protecting construction is missing, there are two U-section rails where it was attached.

Hallo i'm new on this site and there is a picture of my GMC on the site in the models list and it has wood on the sides just like yours but mine is a H2 model.

perhaps somebody can tell me something more about the H2 model because I cant find anyone in Holland who has one.

Greetings from holland.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your answers and the picture, its always good to see other tipper's being looked after. I have a soft spot for that model, maybe its because I am an ex army engineer and it just seems fitting to own one.

The H2 model is a little more uncommon than the H1, I personally prefer the banjo style as I think it makes the GMC look better. Easier to work on as well.

Keep in touch,

Hoi Dennis ,

Ik hoop dat je het niet erg vind dat ik een foto van je GMC gepost heb.

I saw your truck in Bussum and took the picture for the CCKW site .

I was also in Bussum with a "set 7 " near the entrance where the
104th Inf.div. Timberwolfs display was.

The Compressor truck on display with the 17th Engineer"s 2nd Armored in the back of the camp is also mine .

It was a fun and wet long week-end.
