I am talking Cosmetic features here.
Many collectors are trying to determine if certain components of their truck are correct for it's DOD (Date of Delivery) This is hard to prove, and sometimes you have to rely on the experience of other CCKW enthusiasts. This is hard to do as many present owners of CCKWs have only hands on experience with their one and only truck.
The best source is the ORD 8 and ORD 9, and that will not tell you everything. Example, GM Part Number for the Radiator Guard remained the same from 1940-1945, even though it went through several redesigns and modifications. Steering Wheels and body panels did the same. Mudflaps and braces are near impossible to decipher, as are the front Troop racks. Hood side panels with/without screens? Try to find when they changed. Reflectors? That is another good one, as the Ord number will get you anything but the Guide that usually that came on your truck. Tires? Same thing. Tires are no prob though as the supply of new ones are limited to two or three brand names. The Bonnet and Hood Hinges also had changes that are not reflected by the GM Part Number.
