Any Idea why? Is it because the mil is not using it/as much any more?

Expense involved, and that giant sucking sound, the US Dollar ain't going as far.
Quality Mil Spec Duck costs, and some is imported.
Hopefully the vendors will not go for inferior material to hold price down.
It will be interesting, but price increases are a normal progression, and this hobby is not cheap.
Good trucks deserve the best.
Don't forget, you saw it first on CCKW.org.

Is this a coincidence ?
Its interesting that you should relate to Phineas Taylor Barnum, who said of himself:
"I am a showman by profession...and all the gilding shall make nothing else of me."
(P. T. Barnum: America's Greatest Showman,Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1995, ISBN 0-679-43574-3, Philip B. Kunhardt.)
It is recorded that he, was : "...... famous for his brazen self-promotion and blatant puffery......"
Now who does that remind me of ?

Barnum said "There is a sucker born every moment"
He made millions in an era when millions could purchase a good chunk of a continent. One could say he made millions in the "monkey business", my kind of guy.
Colin, are you refering to Freddie Laker? I'll bet he would have enjoyed the company of Phineas T Barnum.
BTW
The topic of the thread is that Mil Spec duck is going to jump in cost.

Try New Life, you will like their work. I have sold several of their M-38A1 and M-38 Tops, they come the closest to actual GI Issue.
Remember, there were several manufacturers of M-38 tops during the 20 year career of the M-38, all differed in detail slightly from those the M-38 left the factory with. New Life has the most authentic.
I still use GI Issue as they were plentiful in the 60s and I stocked up. I still have a quantity of M-Series Jeep door frames available.

Joel, Barnum is attributed to have said:
"There's a sucker born every minute". If you are to quote please at least be correct.
Although credited to Barnum there is no evidence that he said it, and its widely recorded that he didnt actually say it.
Next you'll be telling me that Cagney said "You dirty rat" and the words "Play it again Sam" were spoken in the film Cassablanca.
History is about verifiable facts, whether its old trucks or what.
Is Freddie Laker a member of ours ?

Colin, I wasn't there were you?
I never met Sir Freddie Laker, did see his airliners pass thru tho.
Barnum Bros. and Bailey did utilize WWII Searchlights tho, or was it the Fair?
Meanwhile, back at the motorpool............. and rising cost of GI Canvas......
Did I ever tell you about the time I let General Chuck Yeager use my MB at the big airshow?
I wanted to bring the CCKW but the quarter ton was requested.
