solid CCKW

Heres a nice solid start on a CCKW (not mine). I know that for the purist there are a few things to take care of, but if you're looking for a good start, or can live with things like DUKW wheels and post war beds this might make someone happy...

A Vintage Wiring of Maine Harness and a WWII Cargo Body would do wonders on this beautiful CCKW. Note the 50s engine and late intake manifold. It appears that all the hard work has been done and I'll bet it runs as well or better than many collector's CCKWs.

This truck obviously has had a lot of time spent on it, it appears the workmanship is quality, look at the nice cab and windshield glass. The cab is about as clean as can be found, this will make a nice vehicle to use in parades. The M-Series body does not look all that bad if the wood spacers used on the chassis are not thicker than 1", it lowers the Cargo Body. The truck will make a good addition to any WWII Collection.

The Red Cans are over the counter items, today's price on them exceeds what most collectors will pay for vintage cans.

There are probably some DUKW owners out there that will trade ten new mounted 750X20 NDTs for the set of DUKW wheels and tires.

The Hood Blanket is an unique accessory, not many out there.
The Straight Front Bumper is a $500.00 plus, and there are no puddles of oil to be seen.

If one wants original equipment and willing to put in that much time and effort into a CCKW what is $50.00 per can to get original WWII dated Jerry cans, rather than the over the counter red Blitz cans. Most collectors want the original stuff, if it is available, and the cost of the cans is small to the overall cost to the whole restoration.
Jerry cans are like a lot of other things from World War II. They are now over 60 years old and the pressure to own the originals with more and more collectors out there is driving up the prices.
The $3.00 cans are a thing of the past unless someone is lucky enough to find them at flea markets or in an old barn. Good GI cans are bringing a lot more money now, just like the canvas water buckets, and what is a CCKW wiothout a canvas bucket, just not dressed up, that is what.

So did the U.S. Cavalry, that is where the original design came from. Easy to pack into the saddle bags. Of course they were also issued a feed bag that would snap to the bridle , then no one had to hold the bucket, and the bucket was used for water.
I donated a coplete WWI Cavalry outfit to the Corps of Cadets Center at Texas A&M that was totally complete including all of the accessories for the horse. A lot of the stuff that got moved over to vehicles came from use on horses.
