You say what a beautiful (early ) chevrolet, be careful looks may not be correct. The cab has late features - late wipper arms , and wood steering wheel and radiator guard are all late features. The early chevrolet side panels could be a add on as with the early b/o light guard. Another thing it has is a cckw registration number , chevy numbers I believe all started with a 3. However it is a very nice looking truck and it does have the ever original jerry can mounted water bucket

That truck is welcome to stay in my barn anytime

and of course all the late features I have said could also have been added on a early truck who knows only the shadow knows

Considering the age of all of these old vehicles, late or early add on's are common place. I am not an expert on closed cabs, so did not notice the wiper arms or cab features, however as you said, only the Shadow Knows , but what ever the case it is one nice looking truck.

It has the early loop grill and the add-on BO drive light kit.

It is NOT a Y model though because you can see both sides of the hood hinges. On the CCKWX and the Y model Chevys, the cab portion of the hood hinge runs down the frontof the cowl.

it might be an early chevy, my 41 is a "Y" model and had the hood hinges as you decsribe, but during the restoration I replaced the firewall with an NOS piece and used the later style hood hinge. As has been said previously, this truck could have had a mix of pieces during it's rebirth, only true way to tell is to check the datplates.............

Actually, with a Chevy there is no way to tell for sure as far as the serial number and DOD is concerned. No frame numbers was a dumb idea...
