Brilliant picture of a rare vehicle, if I’m correct it has an Belgium owner.

A real beauty!
I have one of them too (unrestored) and it works too!
You have to be careful because if you hit a rock or other immoveable object when drilling, it will lurch over and just about throw you out of the back....

Hi Jack, 'Truck 1.5 ton 4x4 Telephone Earth Borer (Chevrolet NR-G 7163)
Used by Corps of Engineers as Earth Auger M1 and by Signals Corps as Earth Borer and Pole Setter' quoted from Vanderveen.

BTW the jackhammer and wood drill inthe pix would have to be run off of a CCKW with LeRoi compressor on it. The Auger truck can just auger and set the pole in the hole.
There are more moving parts in an auger truck than there are in a couple CCKWs!
It has two (2) sets of concentric ring and pinion assemblies to get the power to the drill head.
The xfer for the Auger and pole setter are unique to those 2 trucks. The power goes right thru it and out the back (live) to drive the little transmission with decides if the winch (behind the cab) or the auger gets power or neither.
The rear axle is a civy type having the parking brakes on the rear wheels like the early Y model chevys.
