RADIATOR TIE RODS

Post by joel gopan »

There were two types of rods used on CCKWs. Those used with the early Air Cleaner (GM-3660454), that was used with the Die Cast Carburetor, the rods were straight on both sides, and the tie rod (GM-2178722) used with the larger diameter Air Cleaner that was part of the Cast Iron Carburetor installation. It had a bow in it in order to provide clearance to the late style air cleaner.
NOTE: If you are wondering when the Die Cast Carburetor was replaced with the Cast Iron Carburetor, the Cast Iron Carburetor was installed at the factory beginning with Chassis No. 321078. You in reality find either carburetor installed on surplus CCKWs as any good carburetor is at a premium. (I prefer the Die Cast as it is more responsive.)
