According to numerous sources the 270 engine had bores directly in the block, thus through lack of block hardness the bore life was quite short, quoted at 10 000 miles to engine reconditionig.
However the engine I have definitively have cylinder sleeves. Dry ones to be precise. So the question is are those sleeves after war recondition procedure or the design of the engine had been improved some time during the war ????

I would believe that the engine you have has been reconditioned and the dry sleeves pressed into the block. This is not an unusual proceedure on old vehicles by civilian useage. I don't believe this is anything the Army of the U.S. did as they had too many spare NOS engines to just replace when one went bad. This , I believe is an after war proceedure, in order to continue to use the engine, as no new spare was available. I had a 42 GPW that the engine had been sleeved sometime in the fifties by the civilian owner.
