There was a Battery Heater Kit which relocated the Battery to the Firewall. It utilized the cooling system to circulate hot water thru a warming plate under the Battery.

It was part of a Winterization Kit. It sure crowded the engine compartment. I had a new one of these kits 20 years ago and pitched it after robbing the fittings and useful hardware. There were canvas covers and "DOT" fasteners, a battery Slave Cable, hosed, warming plate, etc.
I have none of the instruction sheets or packing list that were included. I do have a NOS Post War Stewart Warner Personnel Heater Kit for CCKWs and Chev 4X4. It mounts in a Box on the Driver's Fender, and includes a Hand Primer Kit.-Not for Sale though. It is for "drooling" purposes only.

Thanks Joel.the reason I ask is the closed cab CCKW with the extra rear springs that was on ebay a few weeks ago had the battery mounted in this way.I have never seen this fitting on any truck over here, was it used during WW2?

My Kompressor truck has the battery there. Some would keep the original too and have 2 6v batteies in parallel for more current. Still had problems in Korea...

I also have the fender mounted kit which will go on my 'Korean War' cckw
