6 VOLT FACTOID

Post by joel gopan »

The current DELCO Battery that is equal to the original factory CCKW battery that was in the long battery box is the DELCO 717. Not all SWBs used the short box. Both were used. 717 does not fit the short battery hanger.

One of the best moves I made on my truck was to switch to 12 volt. While maybe not original, I do love 12 volt . I did the same thing on the several MB's and GPW's I owned over the years. most of the MV'rs in this area have switched their WWII trucks to 12 volts.

For 12v, use a group 27 or 27F (ford) battery. The difference is the + and - terminal placing. One is the opposite of the other.

Ah, 12 volts and an electric fuel pump. Start great, unassisted at 20 below!

Hello All,

This company, http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/, sells reproduction hard rubber cased tar top batteries. They list several (rasied letter style) Delco batteries. Perhaps one on these will fit a CCKW?

If one of these will fit, it would be a great item to add that extra detail to a restoration.

They offer both 6 volt and 12 volt Delco reproductions.
