SWB FUEL TANK BRACKET/SPARE TIRE CARRIERS/ M-36 MOUNTS

Post by joel gopan »

One will note on the recently surplussed European SWB CCKWs that many have the late Fuel Tank Brackets . These late Brackets have provisions for the early small neck fuel tank of the Closed Cab, and the two large holes for the Open Cab Fuel Tanks with two large curved fill pipes. One will also observe the Fuel Tank Brackets on open Cabs that have the Closed cab fuel Tank system. This is a result of 40+ years of service and many rebuilds. It sometimes complicates the matter when a closed cab system is on a truck with an open Cab, sometimes requiring the Right Rear M-36 Post to be shortened because of interference of the Fill Pipe.

It may not be a bad idea to purchase a spare SWB Fuel tank for your CCKW, those with the later Brackets can use early or late tank as the late bracket has provisions for both. The Early bracket has only provision for the single small filler neck. Finding a bracket with spare tire carriers can be a problem though because of the bulk and weight of it.
