Recirculating Ball Steering

Both the Chev and CCKW from WW2 had recirculating ball steering. GM addopted this in the late 30's as standard for their bigger trucks.

That type of steering became the standard for US cars and trucks during the 50's and was only supplanted in cars recently.

They had an ad that said: "If it steers like a truck, it is not a GMC"

If you have driven some of the other types they had back then, you will agree....

I can relate to this, as my grandfather had a 30's Diamond T on his farm and the steering took all one had to turn the wheels, even when rolling.
