Best not to monkey with it, most have been stuck for 60 years. There is no commercial equivalent that is an exact match. Some have claimed to have removed and cleaned, not really sure about that.

It seems that on my truck, the brake lines were replaced at some point as there is no valve or any fittings. The line just goes right through where the valve is supposed to be. Seems the Europeans (most likely Norwegians) didn't like the valve as eliminated it.

I still have this shut off valve installed on my truck. There is no reason to shut off the front brakes anyway, except you are planning to drive over barbed wire. :D

I took off mine and it came apart real easy but it turns tough just like before. I would say that it is best to leave it alone, after taking it off, etc... it was time wasted - plus how many of us will be blowing through fields of wire or roads that are booby trapped

There is a grease called Stop Cock Grease that would be ideal to coat the inside works with.
I'll trace the part numbers on CCKWX and early CCKW to check if it was used on the first models. I doubt anyone disliked the set up. It may have been a routine replacement by a support unit.

My 45 CCKW
No longer has one , But I located one with a brkt. and I fully intend to install it "as built" when the vehicle goes under restoration :D
It is also a split frame ( air portable ) so there is also 2 valves and a hose to locate for the rear .And thanks to Joel I'm halfway there :)

Cheers
John

Think about it, the Chevrolet was not the frontline combat vehicle the GMC was.
