It is best to have the truck on on a slight uphill grade when draining it because of location of the drain plug. (BLOCK THE WHEELS).

I carry two 4x4 blocks of wood , approximately two feet long just for things like that. Chocking wheels is always a good idea, even on flat ground and especially when you are under the vehicle. As Joel says, saftey first.
