Open Cab M-36 gun ring Wanted
Ok when I get back from Iraq I'll be in the market for a M-36 gun ring for my open cab 353. Does anyone know of a good contact or place that has these available? And on this side of the big pond as I'm sure the freight across the Atlantic is costly.
If the M36 ring mount is on the eastern seaboard I'll travel to pick it up and bring it home when I get back.
Cause every one knows any military vehicle looks sexy when it has a M-2 50cal. mounted.
Thanks.

Slightly off subject but a few years back while watching a History Channel presentation on D Day at Normandy , for a brief souple of seconds a Long wheel based CCKW drove by the camera and someone had mounted a jeep pedestal mount on the passanger runningboard with an M1917 water cooled Browning on it, The relief driver just smiled big and waved at the camera man as they roared by with their load. Not real factory stuff but GI's modify to their needs and availability of items at the time.

Hi Doc
M-36 refers to the entire or complete mount for an open cab truck (WW2 )
It is made up of several parts however, what you want to ask Kevin for is an M49 ring, and you probably want to use the earlier cast leg brackets.
The tubing needed for the legs themselves you should be able to purchase locally ( save lots on shipping ) from a steel supplier.
There is a 1/2" steel adapter plate needed to connect the left side ( above driver )bracket to the ring I don't know if Kevin has that item avail. I made my own. He does have Barral clamps of which you need 1.
Again I hope this helps
John
P S I have a set of legs with the welded brackets avail but they are correct for the later M- series vehicles

Armydriver, that same bit of film is recorded in history now, as it features in the "Band Of Brothers" support documentary, " We Stand Alone Together" .
Saw it only last week here in the UK.

If someone will send me good detailed pics of a M36/M49 setup I will post it to the main site.
I have the TM that elaborates on WWII mounts but the pics are lousy.
Come to think of it if you want to send detailed pics of all the CCKW type mounts I will post them to the main site.

Doc, any of your buds from the 82LHD going to Aberdeen. Someone had a partial setup there last year alot cheaper than Kronlunds place. Maybe they could pick one up for you

M36 Ring Mount
Bill I'd happy to send detail shots of my M36 set up. A job better done in the spring though as she tarped up at the moment.
If nobody replies sooner I'll do it just as soon as. We had a couple of these set-ups for sale at the War & Peace show in 2006, and they are readily available from Holland at this time.

Military Vehicles Magazine issue # 97 June 2003 has a good article by David Doyle on page 134 concerning gun mounts used on CCKW and also other post war models.
Portrayal Press has TM 9-224 MG mounts for trucks dated 4/43
Althiugh I don't have manual I believe Portrayal Press has TM9-2016 concerning gun mounts as well.
Hope this helps
