Original CCKW shop truck found!

Well Chris T has done it again. He located a complete and original CCKW shop truck. It has been delievered to a military museum and is waiting for a restoration. This truck is complete from it's original OD green paint to the original tail lights and tires. The odometer reads 00029!!!! It still has the metal spark plug shield. Here is a link to some pics of it before we got it.

Well, I can't say I found it, but I'm glad I could save it. This will not be a quicky resto-job, I want to check the whole truck to see how original it is.
I have been talking to some people (yes, some are on CCKW.org

) about the truck and if it is original-how we can use the information for other CCKW owners/reseachers.

It looks af if there is a box or some shielding over the dipstick and ignitionsystem ??
Any chanse of a photo of the left side of the engine?
If there is an extra shielding ther, is there also other shieldings on the rest of the el-system?
If so, could this shop truck have been a radiorepair truck? Meaning they needed this shielding when trying out the radioequipment????

Any toughts?

It looks like it would be a pain to get to the distributor in combat with that shield in place.

It for sure is some shielding for the elctrical, and that is typical for a vehicle with lots of radioequipment.
I do not have enough TM's to sort this out for you, but sure someone else has.
And this is the first time I have ever seen such a thing on a CCKW.
Needs further investigating!!

Wow, that looks great, I can't wait to see it. If I can help with the resto at all, just let me know, esp. if it needs metalwork to be done, I'm getting pretty good at welding

I could be and probably am wrong, but the box around the dist. looks kinda like the ones used on the DUKW. I wonder if this engine is possibly from a DUKW.

Some CCKWs were ordered with additional shielding. Over the years we have had engines removed from both CCKW and AFKW engines with this kit installed. They all had deep sump pans which DUKW did not. The distributor must be removed in order to remove the lower shield. There are DUKW owners that will drool over the kit.It is also attached to the Valve Cover.

GREAT FIND! LOTS OF HAPPY HOURS AHEAD,I ALSO SUGGEST THAT THE SHIELDING SHOWN IS SIMILAR, IF NOT THE SAME AS THE TYPE SEEN ON DUKWs , THE EX NORG 353 H1 THAT IM RESTORING ALSO HAS THIS SHIELDING, AS THE ENGINE HAS AT SOME TIME BEEN REPLACED WITH A RED RIVER REBUILT UNIT COULD IT POSSIBLY BE

THAT THE REBUILT ENGINE MAY HAVE BEEN IN A DUKW IN ITS PREVIOUS "LIFE"

,IF YOU ARE POSTING MORE PHOTOS COULD YOU PLEASE INCLUDE SOME OF THE BULKHEAD TO THE REAR OF THE ENGINE,SHOWING THE WIRING JUCTION BOXES,ETC,ETC,BOTH SIDES &CENTRAL WOULD BE GREAT. BEST OF LUCK WITH THE REBUILD,

There will be a "Do not Step" notice on the cover to the shield. Note the original Coil, they are desireable and hard to come by.

You have a good chance to study a truck that has no post war mods or alterations by foreign gov't. Note the types of bolts and routeing of wires and hoses, as not many have intact trucks direct from US army in 40s 50s condition.

Could you remove the Air Cleaner and show some details of the Firewall?
Especially of Speedometer Cable Oil Pressure Line, and Junction Blocks under the Regulator.
These are areas that many owners have no good details of, as the manuals are lacking good photos.
Does the Shop Body still have the power Plant?

All of the noise supression items look standard for a late war truck includind filters and grounding straps.

The box has a heater assembly. I'm not sure about a power plant.

This plaque is on the right front corner of the box.

does it mean that this truck was used in the ordnance department?

I will get some pics of the engine compartment and wiring blocks tomarrow.
